Dr Felicity Gerry KC’s client from the Kosovo Specialist Chambers is returned home after commutation of sentence

Dr Felicity Gerry KC has been defending Mr Bahtijari in the Kosovo Specialist Chambers in the Hague since January 2024 and he was finally returned home this month after the President commuted his two-year sentence for two charges of obstruction and intimidation: On 19 February 2025, the KSC President Ekaterina Trendafilova decided to modify the sentences for Mr Bahtijari and provide for his release on 21 February 2025, under conditions. These conditions will continue to apply for the duration of the sentence imposed by the Trial Panel, namely for the remainder of the two years sentence imposed on him. In a case with nearly 700 filings, there is a lot to learn about the process of the court and how to achieve justice for a vulnerable client.
